Trefadder ISO14001

Trefadder has achieved ISO 14001 certification

Trefadder AS is now ISO 14001 certified. The certification marks an important milestone in our work with environment, nature, and sustainability, and confirms that we have a structured and comprehensive environmental management system that meets international standards.

The certification has been carried out by Kiwa Norway. ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management systems, providing a clear framework for how organizations can systematically reduce environmental impact, improve environmental performance, and integrate sustainability into both strategy and daily operations. The standard also includes independent third-party verification and systematic follow-up of relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

At Trefadder, we work with the establishment, management, and documentation of climate forests, protection of natural forests, restoration of kelp forests, and other nature-based initiatives. Our work takes place directly in nature and requires a high level of responsibility, quality, and documentation, placing clear demands on how we plan, execute, and follow up on our activities.

An important step

Anders Kristiansen, CEO of Trefadder AS, highlights the significance of the certification:

“The ISO 14001 certification is an important mark of quality for us at Trefadder. It confirms that we work systematically and in a structured way with environmental management and sustainability, and that this is well anchored throughout the organization. The certification provides a solid foundation for the further development of our projects within climate forests, nature restoration, and biodiversity conservation.”

Structure, systems, and accountability

Strong environmental management is particularly important in our field operations, which represent a significant part of our work. When planting trees and carrying out other activities in nature, strict requirements apply to how the work is performed. We have clear procedures for handling deviations in the field, and a conscious approach to how our presence impacts the surrounding environment. A central principle in this work is what we call “Leave No Trace.” This includes clear requirements for training field personnel, systematic inspection of planting sites, and defined follow-up procedures if deviations are identified. The goal is to ensure that no waste or unnecessary traces of human activity are left behind once fieldwork is completed.

The ISO 14001 process has involved the entire organization. It strengthens internal quality and compliance, while also providing customers and partners with confidence through documented quality, transparency, and traceability in Trefadder’s projects.

Magnus Farkvam has served as project manager for the development and implementation of ISO 14001 certification at Trefadder, and highlights the practical and organizational value of the process:

“The certification process has largely confirmed that we have strong internal procedures and a structured approach to environmental management. It has made it easier to consolidate and clarify existing practices, and has contributed to a shared understanding of how our environmental work is carried out in practice.”

Strong support throughout the process

We would also like to thank Standard Online AS, and especially advisor Ingebjørg Sjåstad, who supported us throughout the certification process.

– We have received excellent support and guidance from Standard Online. Ingebjørg has contributed valuable expertise and practical advice that has been instrumental in establishing and documenting our environmental management system,” says Farkvam.

A commitment to responsible nature management

The ISO 14001 certification confirms that Trefadder has a solid and well-functioning framework for environmental management, with clear objectives, defined responsibilities, and systematic follow-up. For us, continuous improvement is about responsible stewardship of natural resources, quality in our projects, and long-term commitment to climate and nature-based solutions.

– For us, it is essential to take responsibility through structured and documented management of environmental impact, and to set clear standards for our own practices. ISO 14001 provides a framework that supports our purpose and the way we operate,” concludes Kristiansen.

With this certification, we confirm that Trefadder has a strong and well-documented foundation for continued development—for the benefit of nature, the climate, and all our partners.
